Heating Repair in Wilkes-Barre, PA: 24/7 No-Heat Service

If the heat is out, start here. We repair every heating system in the Wyoming Valley: furnaces, boilers, radiators, gas, oil and coal. A real person answers the phone, day or night.

What we fix

When the heat quits, the hardest part is often not knowing what you have or who to call. You do not need to work that out first. We repair every kind of heating system in this valley, and figuring out which one is sitting in your basement is our job.

If you do want to know before you call, look at the rooms rather than the basement. A furnace blows warm air, so you have vents or grilles in the floors, walls or ceilings. A boiler heats water, so you have radiators or baseboard units along the walls instead. The two fail in completely different ways, which is why we keep a separate page for each.

Wilkes-Barre housing is old and it burns everything. We handle gas, oil, electric and coal, including the stoker and hand-fired units that most companies in the area stopped servicing years ago. Steam and hot water radiator systems too, which newer outfits tend to avoid.

Before you call, a few things are worth thirty seconds. Check the thermostat is set to heat and above room temperature, and that its batteries are good. Find the service switch on or beside the unit, because it looks like an ordinary light switch and gets flipped by mistake. Check the breaker. Look at the filter. On oil, check the tank has fuel. On a boiler, check the pressure gauge is not sitting at zero. We would rather tell you it was the switch than send a truck.

Our shop is on Parrish Street in the city, so we are not driving in from another county when it is in the teens and your heat has stopped. Between November and March that is the call we take more than any other. The phone is answered around the clock, by a person rather than a call center.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have a furnace or a boiler?

Look at the rooms, not the basement. If warm air comes out of vents or grilles, you have a furnace. If the heat comes off radiators or baseboard units along the walls, you have a boiler, which heats water and circulates it through pipes. Either way you do not need to be sure before you call. Telling them apart is the first thing we do.

My heat is out. What should I check before calling?

Start with the thermostat: set to heat, above room temperature, fresh batteries. Then the service switch on or beside the unit, which looks like a light switch and gets turned off by accident more often than you would think. Then the breaker, then the filter. On an oil system check the tank has fuel. On a boiler check the pressure gauge is not at zero. If all of that looks right, the fault needs a technician and you should call us.

What heating systems do you repair?

All of them. Gas, oil, electric and coal, across furnaces, steam boilers, hot water boilers, radiators, baseboard and the controls that run them, in every major brand. Coal stokers and hand-fired units included, which matters here because a fair number of Wyoming Valley houses never converted.

Is no heat an emergency in NEPA?

In the middle of winter, yes. A house without heat drops temperature faster than people expect, and once pipes start to freeze a heating problem turns into a plumbing problem and a much more expensive one. We answer the phone 24/7, 365 days a year, and we run no-heat calls through the night.

Do you work on older heating systems?

That is a good share of what we do. Much of Wilkes-Barre was built before 1940 and heated by coal first, converted to oil, then converted again to gas, often with the original distribution left in place. We service steam and hot water radiator systems that newer companies will not take on, and we still carry parts for equipment that stopped being made a long time ago.

Should I repair the system or replace it?

We will give you the math rather than a scare. Under about twelve to fifteen years old with a minor fault, repairing it is usually right. Older, or needing an expensive part, or paired with heating bills that keep climbing, and replacement often makes more sense. We lay both out and let you decide, and we do not push a system you do not need.
